The information processing capacity and extensionsMI 03.06.011 (Boltzmannstr. 3, 85748 Garching)

Physical dynamical systems are promising candidates for information processing media. The information processing capacity (IPC), proposed by Dambre et al., provides a task-independent framework for systematically quantifying the computational capabilities of analog dynamical systems. Its connection to the Wiener series expansion highlights that the IPC can serve as a natural and unified metric for characterizing dynamical systems, although several practical challenges remain. One practical limitation of the IPC is that noise can obscure the system’s intrinsic capacity, making it challenging to assess the underlying information processing. Our proposed method can reconstruct the potential noise-free IPC, helping to identify promising physical dynamical systems for information processing.
